We use the Emmi-Pet Ultrasonic Toothbrush; a motionless, completely silent system that requires no physical scrubbing or brushing. Instead, it works by generating microscopic bubbles that gently break down plaque and tartar (even below the gumline!). Which means:

Which is why we begin with a consultation to assess their suitability and comfort. Ultrasonic teeth cleaning is a non invasive, preventative procedure and not a medical treatment, so it may not be right for every dog!
It all depends on their individual oral health, dental condition, and tolerance to the use of the Emmi-Pet Toothbrush.
For those dogs who are suitable, they will receive their very own toothbrush head for their use only (hygiene first, always!), and we'll create a gentle plan to help keep their teeth clean, their smile sparkling, and their overall health supported.

Every dog begins with an introductory session which includes a full suitability assessment, their very own tooth brush head, and an initial clean to get things started.
From there, you can book maintenance sessions as needed to help reduce plaque and tartar, or simply keep those pearly whites sparkling long after results are achieved.

Can my dog use the Emmi-Pet Toothbrush?
The ultrasonic toothbrush itself is suitable for dogs of all breeds and ages regardless of size or age. In some cases, the Emmi-Pet Ultrasonic Toothbrush may not be suitable for dogs who have poor dentation, existing dental disease, or other factors associated with poor oral health. At Prim & Pupper we offer a consultation where we can check your dogs mouth, teeth, and gums and advise whether we recommend the Emmi-Pet service. Please bare in mind that we are dog groomers and not veterinarians so we cannot diagnose nor advise on medical treatment, only refer your dog to the vets for the appropriate treatment.
How does Emmi-Pet Ultrasonic Toothbrush work?
The Emmi-Pet Ultrasonic Toothbrush works by using technology in the brush head to generate up to 96 million ultrasonic vibrations per minute. These waves work with the toothpaste to create millions of micro bubbles that work to remove bacteria, plaque, and tartar from both the teeth and gums. It provides deep cleaning for your pup's teeth without scrubbing, brushing or even movement. There is no anaesthetic required and the process is stress free for your dog. Your dog will be assigned their own toothbrush head for hygiene and safety that will only be used for their cleaning sessions only.
How often should my dogs teeth be cleaned with Emmi-Pet?
This depends on the condition of your dog's gums and teeth. During the first teeth clean we will discuss the best course of action for your dog's individual circumstances. If heavy plaque and tartar is present, it is strongly recommended that more frequent sessions take place (i.e. weekly), whereas dog's who have less plaque and tartar may benefit from a less frequent schedule. Plaque and tartar can build back up on the teeth between treatments so we do recommend that owners do take responsibility for oral health at home alongside the teeth cleaning sessions for best results. Once results have also been achieved, we strongly recommend that your dog attends maintenance appointments to upkeep the fresh healthy smile and prevent any regression in their oral state.
Will it scare or hurt my dog?
No, the toothbrush is completely silent and does not vibrate or require physical brushing, so your dog is not in any discomfort during the process. It may take a few sessions for your dog to get used to the process of the toothbrush being entered into their mouth and placed on teeth but this can be easily desensitised through positive reinforncement... just like anything in the grooming process.
Is the process safe?
Absolutely. Many veterinarians recommend the use of Emmi-Pet Ultrasonic Teeth Cleaning as a preventative measure to assist in keep your dog's mouth healthy. It is important to know that it is not a medical treatment and only a preventative measure which is purely a cosmetic procedure. The use of the Emmi-Pet toothbrush is gentle and effective so has been recommended by many experts, however, it does not replace a visit to the veterinarian where necessary so in cases where dental disease is present and needs medical attention your dog will be referred to the vet. You are more than welcome to come back after the treatment to use Emmi-Pet to maintain their new smile though if you wish.
